Presentation: Anna Kamasz and with Sandpit Multimedia
Topic: What’s MY:24? The new digital storytelling app
Venue: Graduate House, Carlton, VIC
Website: http://www.atomvic.org/atom14/
Summary:Based on the children’s factual series, the MY:24 app is a new digital storytelling tool that supports young Australians to tell their own ‘MY:24’ - 24 hours that had a transformational impact on their life. Using the inspiration of social media storytelling, the app places the user at the front and centre of a short recount (2-3 minute film) of their own life changing event, using a series of templates ad the in-built capabilities of their iOS mobile device.
This session is an introduction MY:24 and explores how teachers of upper primary and secondary students can use this tool to create personal learning stories, encourage self-reflection and explore the basic codes and conventions of factual filmmaking using new technologies.

ATOM State Conference
Presentation: Maggie Garrard
Topic: Multimodal resources that encourage reflective, contemporary learning and teaching
Venue: Graduate House, Carlton, VIC
Website: http://www.atomvic.org/atom14/Summary:
The teacher’s role is more important than ever before – to support students in developing an understanding of where they want to be in the future, what they will need in order to get there, and the best path to take on the journey.
This workshop is aimed at upper primary or lower secondary teachers and will explore multimodal resources and tools that contain digital content that is engaging, challenging and promotes autonomous learning in creative environments. I will demonstrate how these resources support learners to be independent thinkers and how student’s own values and beliefs influence the way they consume and understand what they view. The media featured in this workshop will promote student’s developing skills as critical and creative thinkers, who have a deep understanding of how media is constructed to persuade the audience and encourages us to think and feel a certain way.
The multimodal resources and tools explored in this workshop focus on high quality, Australian content to inspire a positive Australian culture and a community of discerning, lifelong learners. The Australian Curriculum learning areas of Media Arts, English, Visual Arts, General capabilities and Cross curriculum priorities will be highlighted through these contemporary resources, teaching strategies and authentic learning activities and tools.
