Task 3: Film trailer

Task 3: Film trailer

The Runt trailer reveals more information than the film poster and synopsis but still leaves audiences guessing about the story.

Watch the Runt trailer before viewing the film, then introduce (or review) the ‘See, Think, Wonder’ routine. This strategy encourages students to make careful observations and to interpret these thoughtfully. The steps can be summarised as:

See: Students observe carefully and describe what they see.

Think: Students interpret what they observed.

Wonder: Students generate questions about what they observed and interpreted.

Prepare a large anchor chart with three columns labelled ‘see’, ‘think’ and ‘wonder’, or draw the columns on the board. Give students three sticky notes – one for each column.

Ask students to reflect on interesting things they observed in the trailer, then record their observations on one sticky note. Students then place their sticky notes in the ‘See’ column. Ask volunteers to share their thinking before moving on to the next step: this allows them to build on the group’s thinking and encourages rich conversations.

Repeat the above steps for ‘Think’ and ‘Wonder’ before viewing the film.
