Coming soon to cinemas: Runt film adaptation
Runt is a heartwarming story for readers of all ages, written by Craig Silvey, the bestselling Australian author of Jasper Jones and Honeybee. It follows young Annie Shearer and her adopted stray dog Runt as they attempt to save the family farm by winning a lucrative agility course championship against the odds.
Craig Silvey has now adapted his popular novel for the screen, with RUNT opening in cinemas on 19 September 2024 – just in time for the school holidays.
The film’s talented cast includes Jai Courtney, Celeste Barber, Deborah Mailman, Matt Day and Jack Thompson. Nine-year-old Lily LaTorre stars as Annie Shearer, accompanied by her real-life brother Jack LaTorre, while a retrained rescue dog called Squid plays the role of Runt. Blending heartfelt moments with humour, RUNT is sure to find its way into the hearts of audiences and become an Australian classic.
Primary and lower secondary teachers will be excited to learn that schools can arrange preview screenings of RUNT, with closed private group bookings available from 25 August. This presents a unique opportunity for Term 3 student excursions. Teachers should contact their local cinema to arrange a private group booking.
