Exciting new additions to the Kangaroo Beach cast
Deborah Mailman and Mark Trevorrow have joined the voice cast for the new season of Kangaroo Beach, currently in production.
Deborah Mailman voices Spyke’s Aunty Bev, while Mark Trevorrow takes on the role of Russell, Frizzy’s popstar dad. Young WA actor Blake Stevens has also joined the cast as the new voice of kangaroo cadet, Pounce, while his younger brother Bradley will play Junior Cadet Dougie.
Miranda Tapsell returns to the cast as Wanda, the sugar glider, reuniting with Mailman who voices Big Cuz to Tapsell’s Little J in the animated children’s series Little J & Big Cuz.
After producing two seasons in New South Wales, Cheeky Little Media has teamed up with WA production company Siamese to co-produce a third season of the hit series, which airs on the ABC. The series is being produced across both states, with the support of Screenwest, and features some new characters being voiced by WA actors and a new location inspired by the Western Australian landscape.
Kangaroo Beach is a fun-filled series about the adventures of four young animal friends, Pounce, Gemma, Neville and Frizzy, training as junior cadets with their lifeguard heroes at the spectacular Kangaroo Beach.
Since splashing onto screens in 2020, Kangaroo Beach has become a smash hit with young viewers and their families, securing itself as the second most-watched ABC Kids series on ABC iview. Internationally, it has been broadcast in 12 territories including Canada and the UK.
Series 3 will see the cadets returning for another summer stacked with fun, adventure and friendship, surfing and scuba diving around the beautiful reef, as well as up in the mountains in a new lake location, connected by a river to Kangaroo Beach. While our cadets are well versed in surf beach safety, they’re unfamiliar with inland waterways and have lots to learn, so there will be plenty of new adventure in store with each story empowering young viewers with an imperative message about water safety.
ACTF Head of Content Bernadette O’Mahony said: “Kangaroo Beach is a fun, playful series that’s first and foremost entertaining, but also one-of-a-kind in that it educates young viewers with crucial water safety messages built cleverly into the story. Kangaroo Beach Series 3 is full of the same fun, humour and adventure as the first two seasons and we can’t wait to welcome our favourite lifeguard cadets back to the screen.”
Kangaroo Beach Series 3 is a Cheeky Little Media production for the ABC. Developed and produced in association with the ABC. With principal production funding from Screen Australia in association with Screenwest and Lotterywest. Financed with the assistance of the Australian Children’s Television Foundation (ACTF) and Surf Life Saving Australia. International sales by the ACTF and Infinite Frameworks. Cheeky Little Commercial continues as the global brand manager.
