A third wave of Kangaroo Beach to hit the shore

The hit animated series Kangaroo Beach will return for a third season, with more action-packed adventure from Australia’s favourite lifeguard cadets.

The new season, produced by Cheeky Little Media for the ABC, will commence production this month.

After producing two seasons in NSW, Cheeky Little Media has teamed up with WA production company Siamese and Screenwest to co-produce the new season. It will be produced across both states, with some cast being played by WA voices and a new location inspired by the Western Australian landscape.

Kangaroo Beach is a fun-filled series about the adventures of four young animal friends, Pounce, Gemma, Neville and Frizzy, training as junior cadets with their lifeguard heroes at the spectacular Kangaroo Beach.

Series 3 will see our beloved cadets returning for another summer stacked with fun, adventure and friendship, surfing and scuba diving around the beautiful reef, as well as up in the mountains in a new lake location, surrounded by gum trees and connected by a river to Kangaroo Beach. While our cadets are well versed in surf beach safety, they’re unfamiliar with inland waterways and have lots to learn, so there will be plenty of new adventure in store with each story empowering young viewers with an imperative message about water safety.

This season will also see the introduction of a new character, Spyke, a young adventurous Echidna. As Kangaroo Beach’s freshest cadet-recruit, she’s got a lot to learn about water safety, but she’s also got a lot to give, including lots of beach knowledge to share with her new friends.

Since splashing onto screens in 2020, Kangaroo Beach has became a smash hit with its young audience and families, becoming the second most-watched ABC Kids series on ABC iview. Internationally it has been sold to 12 territories, including Nickelodeon UK, Knowledge Network in Canada, and Warner Bros Latin America.

ACTF Head of Content Bernadette O’Mahony said: “Kangaroo Beach is a fun, playful series that’s first and foremost entertaining, but also one-of-a-kind in that it educates young viewers with crucial water safety messages built cleverly into the story. Kangaroo Beach Series 3 is full of the same fun, humour and adventure as the first two seasons and we can’t wait to welcome our favourite lifeguard cadets back to the screen.”

Kangaroo Beach Series 3 is a Cheeky Little Media production for the ABC. Developed and produced in association with the ABC. With principal production funding from Screen Australia in association with Screenwest and Lotterywest. Financed with the assistance of the Australian Children’s Television Foundation (ACTF) and Surf Life Saving Australia. International sales by the ACTF and Infinite Frameworks. Cheeky Little Commercial continues as the global brand manager.
