Country is central to stories, the places, locations or settings in Thalu, and it is connected to the characters we follow. Country is the living worlds, the lands, water sources and skies. Country creates places and spaces for the story to be told. 

• What did you notice about Country from episode 1 of Thalu? 
• How did the characters interact with Country in the episode?  
• What are your predictions about the mysterious cloud making the people and the Country sick? 

Seven young characters come together to make the story of Thalu. These heroes are tasked to make their way to the Thalu, a place of great power, to overcome the mysterious cloud. The cloud is making the Country and the people sick, and the characters set out to stop the cloud. Focus on how the characters interact with Country to drive the story, using the worksheet and lesson slideshow to support the learning.   

To extend the learning, students can further develop the thinking about Country by considering ‘why’. For example, when Vinka lights the fire, why? To keep warm at night, but also to create a welcoming space for others to join her, where relationships are made.
