Out of the Box Festival

Out of the Box

Out of the Box is a week-long children's arts festival run by the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC). The biennial festival, held in June, takes place in Brisbane's Cultural Centre precinct, with a huge range of activities at QPAC, the Queensland Art Gallery, Gallery of Modern Art, Queensland Museum and State Library of Queensland.

The ACTF was a partner of the Out of the Box Festival from 2008-2012. Our education team provided digital programs and workshops that introduced children to the film techniques and multimedia software, as well as other ACTF educational resources.

In the lead-up to each festival, we held artist-in-residence programs with students from selected Queensland schools. The students worked with a visiting animator to produce their own short films based on the chosen theme. These are compiled into a film, which was broadcast at pods throughout the festival.
