ACTF prepares for MIPCOM
A brand-new season of Little J & Big Cuz will be launched to international broadcasters at MIP Junior and MIPCOM next month.
The ACTF international distribution team will also be offering buyers a sneak peek of the upcoming NITV/Netflix co-commission Eddie’s Li’l Homies when they travel to France for the event.
MIPCOM is the world’s largest exhibition of studios and distributors and the top showcase for content across all genres and platforms. Each year, industry professionals from more than 100 countries converge on Cannes to compete for new series, meet international production partners and set the development agenda for the year ahead.
MIP Junior is a kids’ content market for producers, distributors and buyers of kids programming, which precedes MIPCOM.
Production on Season 4 of Little J & Big Cuz is nearly complete, comprising 10 x 12 minute episodes, which will bring the total number of episodes of the series to 50. Little J & Big Cuz tells the story of a couple of Indigenous Australian kids, busy with the ups and downs of the classroom and the playground, and the surprises that await beyond Nana’s back fence. It is produced by Old Dog Pictures for the ABC and NITV.
Production continues on Eddie’s Li’l Homies, an animated series inspired by the children’s books created by AFL legend Eddie Betts. The 10 x 12-minute comedy series follows eight-year-old Eddie and his two best friends Lottie and Tal as they navigate the complex waters of playground life with the help (and hindrance) of the kids from the ‘hood and liberal doses of comedy, rap music and, of course, kindness. It is the first co-commission between Netflix and Australia’s National Indigenous Television (NITV), produced by Sophie Byrne (The Lost Thing), Eddie Betts and Anna Scullie, and developed and financed with principal investment from the ACTF.
In addition to the launch of its newest titles the ACTF distribution team expects continued interest in the Logie-winning tween comedy-horror series Crazy Fun Park, produced by Werner Film Productions for the ABC, following its recent sales to CBBC and Hulu.
Other titles which have been popular with international buyers this year include the coming-of-age comedy drama series Barrumbi Kids, produced by Tamarind Tree Pictures and Ambience Entertainment for NITV, the preschool animation Kangaroo Beach, produced by Cheeky Little Media for the ABC, and the natural history series Built to Survive, produced by Butter Media for the ABC.
