First Day Q&A Webinar: Storytelling on Screen

Meet lead actor Evie Macdonald, producer Kirsty Stark and writer / director Julie Kalceff from the award-winning series First Day in this free ACMI x ACTF event.

Year 6-10 students and teachers, go behind the scenes of the ground-breaking Australian series First Day in our free Q&A webinar. A 2021 winner in the International Emmy Kids Awards, First Day tells the story of Hannah, a transgender girl starting high school. Hannah experiences all the excitement and fear associated with this transition, but her first day is even more significant: it’s the first day she will wear a girl’s uniform to school and go by her chosen name, rather than the boy’s name she was given at birth.

Joining our panel for this online event are lead actor Evie Macdonald, producer Kirsty Stark and writer / director Julie Kalceff. Our guests will discuss authentic storytelling in screen stories, with a focus on diverse representations, finding your audience, and character and story development.

Hosted by ACMI Education and the ACTF, this session provides a unique opportunity for students to engage with award-winning industry professionals on topics relevant to both English and Media Arts curriculum content. Registrations are now open.
