Prix Jeunesse International Shifts to Free Online Festival

Prix Jeunesse International will take place in 2020 as a free, virtual festival for content creators to meet and exchange ideas about quality in children’s TV.

Prix Jeunesse International has been running every two years in Munich since 1964 and is the oldest children and youth television festival worldwide. With COVID-19 affecting communities around the globe, festival organisers have reorganised to host the event online. The new version of the festival will be held during the week of June 5-11 with the theme “Separated by Crisis; Together in Commitment to Children”.

Content creators can sign up to participate in the streaming of the finalist programmes, with the option to vote on the winners. The deadline to register is May 20, 2020.

Generally, the festival week attracts participation of more than 500 children’s media experts from all over the world. The virtual festival edition currently has representatives from 212 organisations from 52 countries registered.

The Prix Jeunesse Awards, which take place as part of the week-long festival, celebrate excellence in television worldwide, with a strong focus on high-quality and innovative programming.

Australian children’s television series, Little J and Big Cuz – Series 2HardballThe Unlisted and Bluey have all been named as 2020 finalists.

Little J and Big Cuz – Series 2 (Ned Lander Media & Old Dog Pictures for NITV and the ABC) and Bluey (Ludo Studio for the ABC) will represent Australia in the “Up to 6 Years Fiction” category. Hardball (Northern Pictures for the ABC) has been selected in the “7-10 Years Fiction” division and The Unlisted (Aquarius Films for the ABC) will compete in the older age bracket, “11-15 Years Fiction”.
