Education Outreach: Supporting WA Teachers

As part of our ongoing outreach to schools and teachers, ACTF Education recently presented a series of professional learning workshops in partnership with the Western Australian Department of Education.

Delivered in partnership with the WA Department of Education’s Literacy and Numeracy branch, the ACTF Education team last week presented two full-day professional learning workshops in Perth. The focus of both sessions was on using ACTF content in the classroom as a stimulus for writing.

The hands-on workshops firstly walked teachers through the content and resources available to them through the state’s Connect portal for educators and students. Teachers then took an in-depth look at some of our newer series and short films and the teaching resources that accompany these. Student work samples, such as a selection of short stories submitted to our recent My Place Competition, illustrated how teachers around the country are using ACTF series in their teaching of informative, persuasive and imaginative writing.

With reference to the state’s English scope and sequence documents, participants then focussed on creating digital texts using the ACTF’s filmmaking apps. They analysed episodes of popular series, discussed links to the curriculum, and then worked with colleagues to collaboratively plan and create short films using our Little Lunch and MY:24 apps.

The workshops were extremely valuable for our team, and we were thrilled with the positive feedback we received from participants over both days. Thank you to all the dedicated teachers who took time out of their school holidays to come along to our workshops!
