Free Virtual Comedy Scriptwriting Workshops in Term 3: Register Now!

Delivered in partnership with the Australian Centre for the Moving Image our virtual comedy scriptwriting workshops for upper primary students are back for Term 3 in August.

Our popular Comedy Scriptwriting Workshops for upper primary students run as a short course, with five lesson plans provided for the classroom, and two live video conferences on August 15 & 22 (2.30PM - 3.15PM AEST). In these virtual workshops, engaging ACMI education staff introduce students to the sketch comedy genre and walk them through the scriptwriting process. Students collaborate with other schools from all around the country, and are guided in using the Sketch-o-Matic website – a digital sketch comedy writing tool inspired by the You’re Skitting Me television series.

This virtual learning opportunity links to content in several Australian Curriculum learning areas, including Drama, Digital Technologies, English and Media Arts. Curriculum links are outlined in the support materials provided to teachers, and pre-recorded videos further scaffold students’ learning.

South Australia’s Rose Park Primary School participated in last year’s Comedy Scriptwriting Workshops, and students and staff kindly shared their learning with us in the following case study video. Reflecting on the benefits of students learning in this collaborative online environment, Rose Park Principal Di Burrell says, “Being able to share their learning with others makes that learning real. It’s a real-life learning experience, and it’s something that they’ll take with them.”
