Creating Picture Story Books with My Place

The Education Team recently visited Woollahra Public School and learnt how they integrated the 2018 My Place Story Writing Competition into their Picture Story Book Unit. Teacher Gail Pellow outlined how the engaging stories from the My Place book and TV series encouraged her students to write evocative stories about their community and local issues important to them.

The winning Year 5/6 Category in the 2018 My Place Story Writing Competition was from Rebecca in Gail’s Year 6 class last year. Gail was able to show us the beautiful My Place picture book that Rebecca created from her winning essay.

The Education Team also discovered that the Woollahra P.S Principal, Nicole Molloy, was involved in assisting the ACTF with the My Place for Teachers website back in 2009 along with other teachers from around the country.

Our 2018 My Place Short Story Competition was a huge success, with around 900 stories submitted by young writers from around the country. Due to popular demand, we’ll be running this creative student competition again this year. Head to the 2019 My Place Short Story Competition event page for more details.
