Laughing and Learning in Comedy Scriptwriting Workshops
Our August series of virtual comedy scriptwriting workshops for Year 5 and 6 students, presented in partnership with the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), wrapped up last week with students presenting their own original sketches.
In the final workshop of this short course, students last week demonstrated how much they had learnt about comedy in such a short time. Groups of students read aloud hilarious scripts they had written since we last met, demonstrating their new understandings about the features of character comedy, surreal comedy, fish out of water comedy, and parody.
Students from Rose Park Primary School in South Australia had ACTF and ACMI staff laughing out loud with the following original sketch.
Art snobs
Three wealthy art snobs are looking at a piece and are snobby.
Art snobs walk on and air kiss
GWENDOLYN SAYS:
Oh, lovely to see you.
PENELOPE SAYS:
Oh, Gwendolyn look at this monstrosity of an artwork.
GWENDOLYN SAYS:
I wouldn't even call it an artwork.
All art snobs laugh poshly.
VICTORIA SAYS:
It looks like a two year old painted it.
PENELOPE SAYS:
No, even my granddaughter Gertrude could paint better than that and she's only four months old.
Art snobs laugh.
GWENDOLYN SAYS:
You crack me up. I haven't laughed this hard since the 50's.
VICTORIA SAYS:
Look at this art work - such simplicity...
GWENDOLYN SAYS:
The authenticity.
PENELOPE SAYS:
It's absolutely perfect.
Art snobs pick artwork up. It’s only a stick figure.
