Task 1: Compare and Contrast Text Types

As a class, discuss Paul Jennings’ short stories and the various adaptations of these stories. To compare different text types developed by the same author, firstly read ‘Skeleton on the Dunny’ – a short story from Jennings’ book titled Unreal. Alternatively, the class could listen to an excerpt from an audiobook. Then watch Round the Twist episode ‘Skeleton on the Dunny’ in full or select a shorter clip. The first episode of Series 1, this full episode is available on the YouTube channel, Twisted Lunchbox.  

Have students identify similarities and differences in narrative techniques, character development, and themes across the text types. If this episode were to be included in Round the Twist The Musical, which elements do students think would be incorporated, and why?
