Chester and Mapplethorpe are inseparable — their friendship cemented by their outcast status in their small town of Asphodel Heights. But a trip to Crazy Fun Park, an abandoned theme park on the edge of town, will change their lives forever.

As Chester struggles with his grief, he becomes determined to be reunited with Mapplethorpe – even if it means risking his own life.

Newcomer and fellow misfit, Violetta, becomes highly suspicious of Chester’s erratic behaviour as he struggles to maintain balance between the world of the living and the world of the dead. Fascinated by the many accidental deaths that have occurred at the park over the decades, Violetta visits it one night.

When Violetta discovers Fun Kid, Gonzo, is disintegrating because no one remembers him, she resolves to help. Meanwhile, Chester’s attempt to make Mapplethorpe’s death more comfortable backfires.

When Mapplethorpe learns Chester is meeting with the head of a prestigious school that may cause him to leave town, he takes matters into his own hands. Meantime, Violetta plays matchmaker for some of the Fun Kids.

On Halloween, the Fun Kids discover that for one night the dead can walk the earth with unexpected consequences — particularly for lovelorn, Destinee.

Tensions boil over when Chester lies to Mapplethorpe about a life-changing opportunity, and Fun Kid, Nimrod, is reunited with an important person from his past

After his argument with Mapplethorpe, Chester avoids Crazy Fun Park. While Mapplethorpe adjusts to life without his best friend, he focuses on helping Zed remember what brought him to the park. Chester, meanwhile, spirals out of control beyond the walls of the park.

Chester returns to the park to make up with Mapplethorpe but meets Remus, who leads him into the Mirror Maze. Inside, Remus reveals something terrifying that makes Chester say he wants to stay in the park forever.

Chester, Mapplethorpe and Violetta are all forced to confront the things they most want to forget when Remus puts a dangerous plan into action. Later, Chester leaves town to attend art school in Berlin. Once there, he writes a comic book about a fun park and two friends called, The Awesome Adventures of Fester and Maggotboy.
